Madonna as the Jesus Christ and the weeping Mother of God, with a tight corset and a huge cross

This year, Madonna is celebrating her 40th anniversary as an artist.  She is organizing a big tour with her legendary hits, which officially begins on July 15 in Vancouver.

Recently, the singer took part in a photo shoot for the Italian version of Vanity Fair magazine. She looked like the  Jesus Christ with a crown of thorns on her head from the painting “The Last Supper”. She also appeared as a weeping Mother of God, who held a bloody heart pierced by swords in her hands. Photographers were from  Italy and Swiss – Luigi Murena and Jango Henzi.

When Madonna was asked about her religious image, she replied that she was interested in experimenting and changing reality: “Jesus and his disciples appear at the Last Supper, all men, so I thought it would be interesting to turn everything around and fill Jesus with feminine energy surrounded by disciples. I liked the idea of ​​playing with this contradiction, which really isn’t.”

“Look at the image: I am crowned, dressed in luxurious clothes and standing on the altar. Do you know what state I was in? I felt abandoned and weak. It was just a photo taken in a studio, but it took me back to Rome when I was being heavily criticized by the Vatican. I grew up in a Catholic family, and the attacks from the church were a shock: with my work I was just trying to be good, but it eluded them. I knew immediately that the problem was with them, not with me. They did not understand that my songs bring people together, give them freedom of expression. I was simply applying the teachings of Jesus. My detractors were hypocrites”— said the American pop singer.

The dancer appeared before the photographer in the image of the Mexican artist Frita Kahlo, wearing a hoop decorated with flowers, a tight corset with cutouts in the chest area, and hung a cross around her neck.
